S – Hebrews 9:8-9 8 By these regulations the Holy Spirit revealed that the entrance to the Most Holy Place was not freely open as long as the Tabernacle[d] and the system it represented were still in use. 9 This is an illustration pointing to the present time. For the gifts and sacrifices that the priests offer are not able to cleanse the consciences of the people who bring them. (NLT)
8By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing 9(which is symbolic for the present age).According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, (ESV)

This was the Holy Spirit's way of showing with a visible parable that as long as the large tent stands, people can't just walk in on God. Under this system, the gifts and sacrifices can't really get to the heart of the matter, can't assuage the conscience of the people, but are limited to matters of ritual and behavior. It's essentially a temporary arrangement until a complete overhaul could be made. (MSG)

8By this the Holy Spirit points out that the way into the [true Holy of] Holies is not yet thrown open as long as the former [the outer portion of the] tabernacle remains a recognized institution and is still standing, 9Seeing that that first [outer portion of the] tabernacle was a parable (a visible symbol or type or picture of the present age). In it gifts and sacrifices are offered, and yet are incapable of perfecting the conscience or of cleansing and renewing the inner man of the worshiper. (AMP)

O – My study notes state: “The Mosaic sacrificial system brought neither sanctification of the soul nor the fullness of God’s peace into the inner life of the worshiper. This is in contrast with the new covenant”. All of this points to the perfection of Christ’s sacrifice and the soul cleansing work of that sacrifice.

A – This passage brought just such an awesome sense of gratitude the access that we have to God because of the sacrifice of Jesus. We have the ability to enter into the Holy of Holies and commune with God. This is something that the Israelites never could do. If someone wanted to worship God to the fullest and be filled with the Holy Spirit they couldn’t. There are instances in the Old Testament where the Holy Spirit would fall upon someone but it wasn’t readily available to everyone. What an honor and a privilege that we can take so much for granted in our age. We have what others could only dream about. I don’t want to take that for granted. I am just so amazed at the incredible gift it is to be able to commune with God and be filled with the Holy Spirit. I want to be filled up with all that God has to offer.

P – Lord Jesus – your gifts are so amazing and so precious. Refresh my sense of awe and gratitude every day. Help me to not take it for granted. I pray for a fresh infilling of your Holy Spirit and for the sanctification of my soul – my innermost thoughts and the forgiveness of my sins – not just the behavior sins but the sins in my heart. Thank you for the softening of my heart; the healing of my heart – my soul. You are the one who renews my soul and cleanses me every moment of every day. Thank you so much for how much you love me and all of mankind. May all my actions and thoughts of the day bring you honor. In your name I pray – Amen!
